Vacuum Cleaners are Important Assets

Vacuum Cleaners are Important AssetsWhat would we do without our vacuum cleaners? Since we were children the vacuum cleaner was the central focus of our parent’s routine housecleaning. Actually, in many ways that is still true today. Whether our floors are carpeted, wood, vinyl or tile the vacuum cleaner may play an important part in our cleaning routine. Review the following suggestions to get the most out of your vacuum cleaner and to help provide a cleaner home.

1. Before vacuuming or dusting, turn your furnace fan on to help filter any floating dust particles out of the air and into the furnace filter.

2. How do you know whether to vacuum first or dust first? This is a debatable question and there are theories to support either choice.

A.If you choose to dust first be sure to follow up with a vacuum cleaner that has a good filtering system, such as a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter. This will capture the dust as it passes through the vacuum cleaner and prevent the dust from blowing back into the air to settle somewhere else.

B.If you choose to vacuum first be sure to use microfiber or electrostatic cloth to capture the dust & avoid sending the dust back into the air to settle again. You can also use a damp cloth depending on the type of items you are dusting.

3. Clean your vacuum cleaner regularly. Replace bags and belts whenever necessary. Also empty the canister (for specific vacuum cleaners) often to allow your vacuum cleaner to work at its full capacity. Check for leaky hoses and clogged brushes. Your vacuum cleaner must be clean & working properly to ensure the best results.

4. Don’t forget about your furniture upholstery. Use your vacuum cleaner upholstery attachment to keep your furniture looking clean and new. Vacuum under the cushions, in the crevices, as well as the entire upholstered surface. Vacuuming your upholstery regularly will prevent dust from floating into the air when someone sits down or gets up from your furniture. Also, it will keep your furniture fresher & help it last longer.

5. Another dust culprit is where the floor meets the baseboard or wall. No matter what type of floor covering you may have in your home, dust will definitely collect in this area. Use your vacuum cleaner attachment to eliminate all dust from this area before vacuuming the floor.

6. Be sure to leave the furnace fan on at least 10 to 15 minutes after completing all vacuuming and dusting.

There are many additional uses for your vacuum cleaner, so be creative and get the most out of it. Your vacuum cleaner is an important asset to your home when used correctly.
